"To give this small and confined kitchen an open and more airy feel
and to allow the client to associate more freely with guests and family
two walls were removed and replaced with two micro-lam beams supported
by steel lally columns. The two columns (one in the kitchen and the second
directly beneath it in the basement (not illustrated) were supported by
a concrete footing dug in the basement floor, below the point where the
two walls had previously met. The upper column is hidden in the fiberglass
